10 Feb 2019    15:00   /   Nest@Migratie Museum

To conclude the exhibition The bricks that build a home, writer and journalist Vamba Sherif will give a lecture on the theme of “feeling at home”.

Vamba Sherif will take us on an autobiographical journey of migration and flights through three continents. Starting in Africa, Liberia, where he grew up and struggled with belonging between the different cultures that influenced him, he then takes us to Asia, Kuwait, where Arabic became his first language, the Gulf War made him flee to Syria and then to Europe, the Netherlands.belong is the biggest theme in Sherif’s literary work.

In his novel De Zwarte Napoleon (The Black Napoleon, 2015), the main subject is ‘belonging’. The theme also plays a major role in Sherif’s recently published collection called Zwart (Black, 2018).
