Opening The Singing Parliament

A solo exhibition by Henk Schut

  •  This month
Opening Hoogtij

Note: this exhibition takes places at Nest's new location Nest in Laak, at Verheeskade 321.

You are invited to the opening of The Singing Parliament, a solo exhibition by Henk Schut. The opening will take place during Hoogtij.

For The Singing Parliament, Schut created an impressive audio landscape of 150 speakers, as many as there are seats in the Dutch House of Representatives. These 150 different voices and sounds create a continuous series of tones and choirs, where you can walk through, sit down, or lie down. It's an overwhelming experience.

The starting point is the musical piece Deus venerunt gentes by the English Renaissance composer William Byrd, for which he composed music to a text that was forbidden in Protestant England. Schut complements Byrd's music with a series of sounds from his inexhaustible sound archive.

Here you can find all events, exhibitions, talks, workshops and performances that Nest organises.
