Stadstekenaar: ADO Den Haag

As Stadstekenaar of The Hague, Philip Akkerman paints a cityscape of all districts of The Hague. This month: the stadium of ADO Den Haag.

“A miracle has happened: ADO have been promoted and crowned champions as well! Unbelievable. At the start of the summer, things seemed to have hit rock bottom. They had no manager and no assistant manager—there was a goalkeeping coach, but he didn’t even have a valid licence. They also no longer had a technical director, and the squad was far from complete. Then, at last, a new manager arrived—one Robin Peter—but earlier that year he had been dismissed by FC Emmen. Right, not good enough for FC Emmen, and now he was supposed to lead ADO to promotion? That didn’t bode well for the opening match against Willem II. But then…?! Willem II were thrashed 5–1 with fantastic football! And what followed was a brilliant season. Five years in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, five years without much to smile about—but now the sun is finally shining again in The Hague.”
