Stadstekenaar: Groene Mient

As Stadstekenaar of The Hague, Philip Akkerman paints a cityscape of all districts of The Hague.

Groene Mient in the Vruchtenbuurt is an oasis in the city. The vision behind this housing project was to create a “green village within the city.” In 2017, that vision–born from a residents’ initiative–became reality with the completion of 33 energy-neutral homes and a large shared inner garden with a garden pavilion. The residents themselves acted as the developers through a collective private commissioning model. This approach makes it possible to shape your own future living environment and way of communal life.

At Groene Mient, city dwellers come together around a shared vision. The essence is to rediscover connection: a residential community in which living together respectfully, caring for one another and the neighbourhood, and using energy and food responsibly are central values. After nine years, it can be said that this original socio-ecological vision has largely become a reality.
