Nest, platform for contemporary art in The Hague, welcomes Laurie Cluitmans as its new director. As of January 1, 2026, she will succeed Heske ten Cate.

Renée Jongejan, Supervisory Board Nest:

"With Laurie Cluitmans, Nest brings in a director who dares to position art as an active force in society. Her intellectual acuity, strategic insight and ability to connect make her exceptionally well suited to build on what Nest has developed in a time when art institutions must respond to social urgencies more than ever. The Supervisory Board is delighted that she will take the helm from 1 January onwards."

Laurie Cluitmans:

"Over the past few years, I've come to know Nest as an energetic and vibrant organization that in its very own way addresses the big questions of our time, fostering a committed community of makers, thinkers, and writers. I look forward to reopening a completely renovated Nest to all visitors in January and leading the way into the future."

Biography

Laurie Cluitmans is a curator and researcher who, in recent years, has worked as Curator of Contemporary Art at the Centraal Museum Utrecht. There, she helped to reposition the contemporary art programme through large-scale transhistorical research projects and artist-driven solo exhibitions. Previously, she was Gallery Director at Galerie Fons Welters and curated exhibitions for, among others, De Vleeshal in Middelburg, De Hallen in Haarlem, and Sculpture International Rotterdam. In 2016, she won the Young Art Criticism Prize for her essay on Derek Jarman's garden, which led to a long-term investigation into the metaphorical potential of gardens in a time of climate crisis.
